May go down as my favorite purchase of 2018.
I purchased a high quality Magnavox VCR for only $8! It was manufactured on January 10, 1991, in Japan, and distributed by Philips.
The key word is "Japan." The unit is technically advanced compared to the modern garbage that was manufactured in China. So advanced, it's working flawlessly over 27 years later!
As a comparison, every brand new VCR that I purchased from China in the 21st century stopped working after light use.
Luckily for me, the thrift store was ignorant and believed that modern VCR's made in China are more valuable than old VCR's made in Japan. What's hilarious is they're guarding the modern VCR's behind their counter with a price tag of $20. Shh.
