Come Play With Us, The Shining.

X user @HouseOfHorrorCo asked their followers to choose a row of horror films from their selection or three rows:

Row 1:

  • Scream (1996).

  • The Lost Boys (1987).

  • The Crow (1994).

Row 2:

  • American Psycho (2000)

  • The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974).

Row 3:

  • The Shining (1980).

  • Hellraiser (1987).

  • Psycho (1960).

This is a challenging question to answer because row two features two films (American Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs) that I watch annually; meanwhile, row three includes my favorite film (The Shining) in this selection.

I suppose I'd go with row two because if I could only own one row worth of films, I'd own two films that I'd be interested in watching.

Let's find out what the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer is presently for each row and film. I'm going to predict that row one has the lowest score and row three has the highest score.

Row 1 Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer (average 80.3%):

  • Scream: 78%.

  • The Lost Boys: 75%.

  • The Crow: 88%.

Row 2 Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer (average 82.3%):

  • American Psycho: 68%.

  • The Silence of the Lambs: 95%.

  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 84%.

Row 3 Rotten Tomatoes Tomatomete (average 84%):

  • The Shining: 84%.

  • Hellraiser: 71%.

  • Psycho: 97%.

American Psycho is the lowest-rated film in this selection due to its explicit violence and pacing issues. Interestingly, its popularity has soared due to these reasons, and it arguably has the highest meme status of this selection.

Meanwhile, Psycho is the oldest and highest-rated film in this selection due to its innovative direction and pacing that remains the standard 65 years later! While it's an incredible film, I rarely watch black and white films. I don't think that I watched this film in over 10 years.

In a related note, I recently purchased a sealed copy of American Psycho on Blu-ray for only $0.25 at my favorite biannual sale! Now I don't need to find a website to stream this film.
