Lilyhammer is a Norwegian-American television series, that's produced by Norway’s Rubicon TV, and America's Netflix. Here's a few things to note:
The first season consists of 8 episodes.
The series premiered in Norway on the NRK1 television channel on January 25, 2012, with a new episode every Wednesday until March 14, 2012.
The series premiered in the United States, Latin America and Canada on February 6, 2012, with all 8 episodes available to stream at launch.
Now, here's what we know about the show's performance:
The show became Norway's best performing local drama series of all-time! One fifth of Norway's population (approximately 1 million people) watched the series premiere!
Netflix refused to disclose the amount of members who streamed the series in the United States, Latin America and Canada.
According to THR, Netflix has signed on to co-produce a second season of Lilyhammer. Because they didn't provide a source... we can mark that as an unofficial announcement. I'll keep you updated as news comes in!
February 14, 2012: I have some bad news for Lilyhammer fans. Steven Van Zandt (Frank "The Fixer" Tagliano) mentioned that filming for the second season of the show might not start until 2013:
"Yeah, there's discussions about it. Netflix wants it. But I've got this other little logistical problem called the Bruce Springsteen tour. I gotta see how the hell I can do this. If we wait until the end of the tour to film it, we're talking 2014 for season two. And that seems a bit long to wait. So I'm gonna try and figure this out. We have to first determine whether America really likes it or not. We'll go from there."
March 15, 2012: It's official. America likes Lilyhammer. The show has an average rating of 4 (out of 5) stars on Netflix after 116,900+ people voted! So hopefully Mr. Zandt will squeeze that 6-8 weeks of filming into his schedule!
