A branch that's constantly complaining about having "no money" to spend on things that matter loosely spent $13 million to upgrade laptops that are in perfect working order.

These laptops are expected to be fully supported by the manufacturer until potentially 2028, with security updates potentially lasting until 2030.

In other words, these laptops have potentially another four years left before they're no longer supported. Due to the ongoing RAM shortage, these laptops could potentially be supported even longer!

This branch doesn't do anything complex to warrant the upgrade. They mostly use dumbed-down apps on the cloud. Imagine paying $13 million to open an app 20-30% faster.

They did the same thing in the past. They replaced laptops from 2018, a few years later. These laptops are still supported to this day. Imagine upgrading a laptop three times when most other branches are still using the same laptop.

If this branch intends to expand its AI workloads, the tech coordinators should have waited to purchase next year's model, which is anticipated to deliver substantial accelerations in machine learning inference and generative AI capabilities.

In stark contrast, another branch within their division must share one lone laptop across almost its entire staff to carry out complex repairs and chemical research.
