Apparently, $169.99 is the new $39.99.
I recently saw a collector criticize a seller for accepting pre-orders for the 2026 Pokémon Trading Card Game Mega Evolution 30th Celebration Ditto Premium Collection at $240. Several other collectors joined the discussion, agreeing that the seller was allegedly charging excessive prices, not only for this particular product, but for many other Pokémon TCG products as well.
However, there was an interesting contradiction in the discussion. The same person criticizing the seller for supposedly charging $240 posted a screenshot of the seller’s product page showing the Ditto Premium Collection listed for $170. Despite the discrepancy, nobody appeared to point it out.
Regardless of whether the price was $170 or $240, both figures are dramatically higher than the product's $39.99 U.S. MSRP.
At $170, the product is being sold for $130 above MSRP, representing a 325% markup over MSRP.
There’s no way I’d pay $21.25 for a single booster pack when the original MSRP is only around $5 per pack.
A retailer can choose to charge more than MSRP for a pre-order, which is why it's important to compare prices from multiple retailers.
