The Pokémon Trading Card Game's Mega Evolution: Phantasmal Flames set was launched on November 14, 2025, and received a lukewarm reception. Alongside Scarlet & Violet: Journey Together, it was one of only two 2025 sets I could find available in local stores. Remarkably, just five months later, the market value of Phantasmal Flames had nearly doubled:

  • Sleeved Boosters are selling for $11.

  • Elite Trainer Boxes are selling for $118.

  • Booster Boxes are selling for $400.

There are only two cards in this one-hundred-thirty-card set that drove the market value up:

  • Mega Hyper Rare 130/094 Mega Charizard X ex are selling for $350.

  • Special Illustration Rare 125/094 Mega Charizard ex are selling for $849.

The other cards in this set are selling for $35 or less; in fact, there are only nine cards in this set with a market value that's higher than the price of a Sleeved Booster.

In competitive play, Mega Charizard X ex is sometimes used thanks to its scaling Inferno X attack, which allows you to discard any number of Energy cards from your Pokémon to deal 90 damage for each card discarded. It isn’t popular enough to significantly raise the price of the standard Double Rare 013/094 version, which still sells for under $5.

Phantasmal Flames is not officially out of print, but it is extremely difficult to obtain due to scalping and limited allocations. It's not clear if The Pokémon Company International has the resources to match demand for this set, considering they're struggling to keep up with demand for newer sets.
