The answer may not surprise you.

Gamereactor has heard from sources close to Rockstar that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 as early as the end of 2025.[1]

Fans are speculating whether Rockstar Games would release this game on a Game Card or Game-Key Card?

If you're unfamiliar with this console, Game Card's contain game data, while Game-Key Card's contain no data but allow users to download the full game to their console.

Let's take a look at a few facts before I make my prediction:

  • Rockstar Games released the first Red Dead Redemption on the Nintendo Switch on August 17, 2023. The full game is on the cartridge.

  • The download size of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PlayStation 4 is approximately 107 GB for the base digital game.

  • The only announced Nintendo Switch 2 game card size is 64 GB.

In order for Red Dead Redemption 2 to fit on a Game Card, the developers would need to reduce the data by 43 GB. This is a massive amount of data to compress, which would negatively affect the texture and audio quality. For this reason alone, I'm predicting this game will be released on a Game-Key Card.
