I never would have expected console prices to reach the cost of building a PC.

A major retailer that specializes in used video game consoles has jacked up the price of the standard PlayStation 5 Pro to a staggering $1,399.99, a $500 increase over its MSRP!

The PS5 Pro itself has been extremely difficult to find. I haven't seen one in stock at any of my local stores at any point this entire year. That's how crazy the demand appears to be.

This is some next-level scalping, especially with Grand Theft Auto VI releasing next month. There's likely to be even more demand for the PS5 Pro as gamers look for the best possible hardware to experience one of the most anticipated games of all time.

Personally, I would have upgraded to the Pro model if Sony had continued to properly support the PSVR2. But with Sony seemingly pulling back on its support for the headset, I decided to stick with the standard PS5 instead. At the end of the day, it's still more than good enough for me.

The standard PS5 with a disc drive, as well as the Digital Edition, is relatively easy to find in stores these days. Unlike the PS5 Pro, which seems to be in much shorter supply, the standard models are generally well-stocked and don't require much effort to track down.

That makes the PS5 Pro's scarcity and inflated prices even more noticeable. For most gamers, the standard PS5 still offers plenty of performance and is a much more practical option, especially when the Pro is selling for hundreds of dollars above its original MSRP.

You could buy a standard PS5 for $649.99, a Nintendo Switch 2 for $499.99, and several games for both consoles, and still have money left over, instead of spending $1,399.99 on a used PS5 Pro.
