I found a hobby box in disguise as a retail box.

Back in 2011 I found three hits in a single retail box of 2011 Topps American Pie! I purchased each of those four packs for $2.94 each. Normally, you'd need to purchase a hobby box of that series to find that many hits.

Unlike 2011 Panini Americana, there's not many hits that I'm interested in collecting from the 2011 Topps American Pie series. I'm mostly interested in collecting relic pieces from monuments and locations, and hit cards featuring the following people:

  • George W. Bush

  • Walt Disney

  • Sarah McLachlan

  • Richard Nixon

  • Marilyn Monroe

  • Vincent Pastore

  • Mickey Rooney

  • Elizabeth Taylor

  • Wilmer Valderrama

  • John Wayne

  • Henry Winkler

Let's see if I was lucky enough to pull one of those hits.

APR-33 - Vincent Pastore (retail odds 1:20)

I pulled one of my most wanted relic cards from this series! Pastore is best known for his portrayal of Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero on the HBO's series The Sopranos. If I had my way, his character wouldn't have been ****** *** in the ****** ******.

  • APA-29 - Don McLean (retail odds 1:99)

McLean has received 40 gold and platinum albums worldwide. He's best known for his 1972 hit "American Pie."

  • HSLP-21-D - Marlon Brando (serial number 25/25 | retail odds 1:123)

This patch card was "specially created for 2011 Topps American Pie."

I scored all of those hits for only $8.82 -- while hobby boxes with the same amount of hits was selling for as much as $144!
