The 'expert' team running this place could use a crash course in competence.
A nearly 60-year-old pedestrian bridge recently collapsed while county workers were driving an 8,000-pound mini-excavator over the bridge to a small island!
The Mayor stated this situation was unexpected because they weren't concerned about the condition of this bridge, which clearly shows visible cracks.
This bridge was most likely not regularly inspected and maintained to address any deterioration or damage. Now taxpayers will need to spend $2 million to repair the bridge, and the job could take up to 24 months.
County cleanup supervisors are also to blame because they could have had the mini-excavator assembled and stored on the island rather than constantly driving it across the bridge to clear a few small debris.
This location appears to be managed by a team that struggles with basic operational efficiency. If they repair this bridge rather than replace it, they will set a new low in quality and execution.
For the record, the old timers who used to clean the debris on this island didn't need a $70,000 mini-excavator.
