Because of a lack of interest.

I finally received an opportunity to acquire an Artbox Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Chocolate Frog Prop Card, but the person who listed that card on eBay canceled their auction four days after it went live.

That's a bummer considering Artbox produced only 86 copies of that card. This particular copy featured the word "wizard." Here's the key details about that auction:

  • The auction started on November 18, 2015 at 05:27:01 PST.

  • Five different people bid on that auction.

  • The highest bid was $25.00.

  • The auction was canceled on November 22, 2015 at 19:35:30 PST.

A quick investigation revealed that seller purchased that card on September 16, 2015 at 4:28 PM PST, for anywhere between $185.00 to $199.99. I suspect they was disappointed with the lack of bids and didn't want to take a loss.

Apparently not so obvious business strategy: Start your auction near your desired price if you don't want to risk taking a huge loss.
