Publishers attempts to rip off users.![]()
The PlayStation Now (PS Now) open beta launched on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) yesterday with 122 games, so naturally I'd find a rental that I'd be interested in paying for, right? Wrong!
The main issue that I have with PS Now is the fact that most of its rentals are overpriced; for example, it costs $19.95 to rent Telltale Games Back to the Future series for 90 days (the only rental option), which is only $0.04 cheaper than owing that series.
In my opinion, all 90 day rentals (the longest rental option) should cost 50 percent less than the list price of its ownable counterpart. From there, publishers can set a fair price for shorter rentals.
The other issue that I have with PS Now is its sneaky and useless 4 hour rentals -- which is only designed to trick users into thinking their other rental tiers has good value.
Publishers are inflating their prices on PS Now because a lot of people didn't purchase a PS3 or Xbox 360 last generation in favor of a Wii. If you're interested in experiencing a lot of those games -- you're currently better off purchasing a PS3, because a majority of that consoles best games can be purchased for less than $20 on Amazon.com.
Question: Is PS Now overpriced?
