Gimmick: Any clever maneuver.nintendo-3ds-xl-01

Nintendo 3DS: Handheld that has an extensive library of games.

ITworld writer Peter Smith stated today that Amazon learned nothing from Nintendo when they developed a phone with a stereoscopic 3D display. He then proceeded to blast the Nintendo 3DS.

"The 3DS offers glasses-free 3D on one of its screens. It's a gimmick, and one that thankfully you can turn off.  I turned it off long ago and haven't found a reason to turn it back on, and most of my friends have done the same," Smith stated.[1]

The Nintendo 3DS' stereoscopic 3D mode isn't a "gimmick," because that mode was never Nintendo's focus of attention. Solid games has always been Nintendo's focus of attention.

"When Nintendo introduced the cheaper Nintendo 2DS, they pretty much were admitting that the 3D screen doesn't add much to the 3DS," Smith added.[1]

That's a false assumption. Nintendo released the 2DS to target children who's too young to safely view stereoscopic 3D effects.
