Or are you happy with an annual Pokemon title.pokemon-alpha-sapphire-01

The Pokémon Company announced today they're developing remakes of the classic Game Boy Advance titles Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire will launch worldwide for the Nintendo 3DS sometime in November 2014.

After reading that announcement, some fans was quick to point out that Nintendo's starting to rush their core Pokemon series. Is that true?

Nintendo started to release a new core Pokemon series annually in North America since 2009. Please note that I didn't factor in Pokemon Platinum, which is simply a director's cut version of Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl.

Nintendo has been releasing a new core Pokemon series annually because demand continues to be strong; for example, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y sold over 10.9 million units combined as of April 26, 2014. That's impressive considering that series launched on October 12, 2013.

I can understand why some fans are upset that Nintendo's pulling a Call of Duty with their core Pokemon series, because they pretty much need to pay Nintendo $80 annually to stay competitive.

I personally have no issues with Nintendo releasing a new core Pokemon series annually, because I'll simply purchase fewer Nintendo published titles to counter their aggressive business strategy...

Question: How often should Nintendo release a new core Pokemon series?
