That's wonderful. Good for HBO! I've always wanted to steam Studio Ghibli's films. It's been my lifelong dream!
HBO Max has reportedly acquired the U.S. streaming rights for the entire Studio Ghibli film library, which includes:
-
Castle in the Sky.
-
The Cat Returns.
-
From Up On Poppy Hill.
-
Howl's Moving Castle.
-
Kiki's Delivery Service.
-
My Neighbor Totoro.
-
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
-
Ocean Waves.
-
Only Yesterday.
-
Pom Poko.
-
Ponyo.
-
Porco Rosso.
-
Princess Mononoke.
-
The Secret World of Arrietty.
-
Spirited Away.
-
The Tale of The Princess Kaguya.
-
Tales From Earthsea.
-
When Marnie Was There.
-
Whisper of the Heart.
-
The Wind Rises (releasing in the autumn of 2020).
HBO Max is scheduled to launch in the spring of 2020. It's not clear if every previously released Studio Ghibli film will launch alongside that platform.
I had previously expected Netflix to pursue to rights of those films because their high quality film library continues to shrink.
