Nintendo's upcoming hybrid home/handheld console Switch, and recent smartphone success, has 3DS users worried the company will drop support for that handheld soon. Rest assured that's not the case.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Shinya Takahashi, Director at Nintendo and General Manager of Planning and Entertainment, revealed the company is planning on supporting the Nintendo 3DS until at least 2018.

"We’re thinking of games to release for 3DS not just in 2017, but in 2018 as well,” Takahashi revealed.

Over 65 million 3DS systems was sold worldwide to date. Supporting that handheld until 2018 sounds about right.
