Virus or poor coding?

The executable file for The Forest has been triggering a "Win32:Dropper-gen" virus alert from Avast users. When that happens, the TheForest.exe file is quarantined in Avast's Virus Chest, rendering that game useless. Two things could have triggered that alert:

  • An infected executable file for The Forest was uploaded to Steam's servers.

  • The executable file for The Forest is poorly coded.

Because The Forest is an "Early Access Game" that's subject to poor coding, I suspect (but can't confirm) that Avast triggered a false positive.
