No one seems to know, at least for now.
Capcom announced today that Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition are coming to Nintendo Switch 2. While the announcement confirmed the release date and editions, it left one important question unanswered: Will the physical versions include the full games on the cartridges?
Physical releases have been announced for Japan and Europe, while a physical release has not been announced for North America. For North American players, the three games are confirmed to launch digitally on October 16, 2026.
The physical editions are particularly interesting for collectors and players who prefer to own their games on a cartridge. However, the announcement and trailer did not clarify whether the games will be fully playable from the cartridge or require an additional download.
That distinction is especially important with modern Switch 2 releases, where some games have shipped with only part of the game data on the physical cartridge.
At the moment, Capcom has not confirmed the cartridge contents for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, or Resident Evil 4. Until Capcom or Nintendo provides more details, it's impossible to say whether the physical releases will contain the complete games or require additional downloads.
At least one question has been answered, however: the three games will be released separately rather than as a single compilation.
For now, Switch 2 owners interested in the physical versions will have to wait for more information about what's actually included on each cartridge.
