Here's why I don't think it will cost $39.99.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past is an upcoming paid expansion for CD PROJEKT RED’s acclaimed open-world RPG, currently scheduled for release sometime in 2027. While the expansion has been officially announced, the developer has not yet revealed an exact release date or price.
Details about the expansion remain limited, but CD PROJEKT RED has indicated that Songs of the Past will be a substantial addition to The Witcher 3, with a scope closer to the Blood and Wine expansion than Hearts of Stone. That makes its eventual price particularly interesting, especially given the relatively low launch prices of The Witcher 3’s previous expansions.
For comparison, Hearts of Stone launched at $9.99, while the larger Blood and Wine expansion launched at $19.99. With Songs of the Past expected to offer a similarly substantial amount of content, its final price could provide a useful indication of how CD PROJEKT RED is approaching premium expansions over a decade after The Witcher 3’s original release.
If CD PROJEKT RED follows its historical approach to expansion pricing, I think a price between $19.99 and $29.99 is far more plausible for Songs of the Past than a higher price point of $34.99 to $39.99.
Considering Blood and Wine takes roughly 28 hours to complete its main and side quests, Songs of the Past could offer an impressive amount of content if its scope is comparable. If you missed the announcement, you can watch the trailer below:
The fact that the studio is revisiting one of its most celebrated games after all this time is a testament to the lasting popularity of The Witcher 3 and its world. If Songs of the Past can capture the quality and ambition of Blood and Wine, it could be a remarkable way to revisit one of my favorite games of all time.
I'm planning to take my time with *The Witcher 3 Remastered* rather than rushing through the game. By staggering my playthrough and spreading it out over a longer period, I'm hoping the wait for *Songs of the Past* will feel a lot shorter.
