mummy 001The wait is finally over.

There are nostalgic movies you can find on streaming services with a few taps, and then there is Under Wraps, the 1997 Disney Channel Original Movie that somehow became one of the most difficult Disney movies to watch legally.

For over a decade, I've wanted to watch Under Wraps. Not the 2021 remake. The original. The one that started it all, the very first Disney Channel Original Movie, a quirky Halloween story about three kids who accidentally bring a mummy back to life.

But there was always one problem: finding it for a low price because, for whatever reason, Disney didn't offer this film on their streaming platform.

I enjoyed watching Under Wraps. Or, at least, I remember enjoying watching this film. I have enough nostalgia for Disney Channel's late-'90s era to understand why people treasure this movie. But nostalgia has limits. I'm not spending $50 on a DVD simply because a nearly forgotten piece of Disney history has become a collector's item.

That's what makes the situation so frustrating.

This isn't some obscure independent film that had one VHS pressing in 1987 and disappeared into a vault. This is a Disney Channel Original Movie. In fact, it's the first one. Disney has spent years celebrating the history of the Disney Channel, building entire streaming services around its catalog and leaning heavily into nostalgia for its older programming.

And yet, somehow, Under Wraps remained just out of reach. Until now. The wait is finally over. Under Wraps is now available to stream on Disney+.

And honestly, after all these years, there is something wonderfully satisfying about finally seeing those words. That might sound like a small thing. It isn't.

For longtime Disney Channel fans, having these older movies readily available matters. These films are pieces of television history, and they're also pieces of people's childhoods. When a movie disappears for years, it becomes more than an inconvenience. It becomes a frustrating reminder that so much of our entertainment history can become inaccessible simply because the business decisions surrounding it are complicated.

That's why seeing Under Wraps finally arrive on Disney+ feels like more than just another catalog addition. It's a little bit of Disney history coming back to life.
