Использовать по максимуму тяжелую ситуацию.

It was April 4, 2001. The Portuguese Guy received devastating news from the school where he had recently been hired. The teachers were scheduled to go on strike the very next day, and because he was classified as a different type of worker, he would not be paid for the duration of the strike.

The Grigoriy Clan couldn't understand why teachers would choose to walk out of the classroom. Back in their home country of Russia, striking has historically been an uncommon way to protest. Teachers have often relied on other methods: negotiating, writing complaints, working through professional organizations, or simply continuing to teach while hoping conditions improve.

Thousands of miles away, across the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii teachers had a long history of using collective action to force improvements in pay, working conditions, and respect. Commander Grigoriy, however, knew all too well that almost nothing good could come from force.

Without the children, the hallways seemed to stretch endlessly, their usual noise replaced by an uncomfortable silence. No footsteps hurried around the corners. No laughter echoed from the classrooms. No voices called to friends, no doors opened and closed, and no teachers reminded students to settle down.

They stopped by their favorite classroom and looked inside. Usually, the room would have been filled with movement, the scrape of chairs, the rustling of notebooks, and dozens of young voices asking questions. Now there was only silence.

For the first time, they understood how much of the school’s life came from the children themselves. A school without children was more than an empty building. It was a building waiting to become a school again.

At every entrance, teachers marched along the picket line, deliberately slowing traffic as cars tried to enter the driveway.

They stood shoulder to shoulder, holding signs that read “Hawaii Teachers Deserve Respect” and “Fair Pay, Fair Education.” Some had brought coffee in paper cups; others carried coolers filled with drinks and snacks.

Police were on hand to keep traffic on public roads flowing, but heckling drivers allowed only two to three cars to pass at a time. Some drivers drove past with closed windows; others shouted in support or disappointment.

The clan made the best of the dire situation by working on their shortcuts and secret base. They measured corridors, discovered gaps behind the lockers, and carefully marked new shortcuts on their maps. Back at their secret base, they worked late into the night, strengthening the walls and adding tiny shelves, desks, and lookout posts.

Still, they knew they couldn't become careless. A school without teachers was not necessarily a safe school. There were still custodians, administrators, and office staff wandering through the empty halls.

The clan's leader tapped a pencil against the map.

Commander Grigoriy whispered, "The strike has given us an opportunity. But opportunities can be dangerous."

Technician Grigoriy and Observer Grigoriy gathered around the map.

"Then we must be smarter than ever," one replied.

And with that, the clan began planning their most ambitious shortcut yet, one that could connect their secret base to every corner of the school without a single human noticing.
