I said the magical word.
Is anyone else still holding out on playing Resident Evil Requiem because you’re convinced Capcom might eventually release a PSVR2 version?
I’m one of those delusional gamers.
After playing Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 (remake) in VR, it’s genuinely hard to go back to experiencing this series on a regular TV. Once you’ve played these games with the added immersion of VR, a flat-screen playthrough just doesn’t hit the same.
The problem is, I’m starting to think a PSVR2 version of Requiem is becoming increasingly unlikely with each day that passes. A proper VR mode would require significant development work, not just flipping a switch and adding headset support. First-person controls, weapon handling, movement, performance, and a whole host of other systems would need to be adapted for VR.
Still, I’m willing to wait because I have a long list of other games that I want to play first.
So here I am, sitting on the sidelines, refusing to play one of the biggest horror games of the year because there’s a tiny voice in my head saying: “Just wait. They might announce a VR mode.”
A modder released "RE9VR," which adds motion controls and supports first-person play in a headset, though it's rough around the edges and exclusive to the PC version. The demand is clearly there, and an official PSVR2 version would be far more polished and accessible than any mod.
I have a feeling that even if Capcom charged $29.99 for a PSVR2 mode, fans would be more than willing to pay for it. They clearly love releasing DLC, but when it comes to the DLC fans are actually asking for, they never seem to deliver.
