You can't beat free.

Luna Gaming members can claim free download codes for two very different games: WarBreeds (1998), an unconventional real-time strategy game built around genetic engineering and customizable units; and Conarium (2017), a Lovecraftian horror adventure inspired by H. P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness. Here's additional details for each title:

Game: WarBreeds.

Released: February 1, 1998.

List price: $5.99.

Available to claim for free on Luna Gaming until: January 8, 2027.

Description: WarBreeds arrived  at the worst possible time, with some of the genre’s most unconventional ideas. Developed and published by Red Orb Entertainment, Broderbund’s short-lived gaming label, it hit store shelves the same year as StarCraft and Total Annihilation, two RTS classics that would help define the genre for a generation. Against that competition, WarBreeds never stood much of a chance. Reviews were largely unfavorable, and the game quickly slipped into obscurity.

While most RTS games of the era revolved around optimizing build orders and managing armies, WarBreeds asked you to think like a genetic engineer. Units and structures were grown from gene pools, with limbs, weapons, and armor mixable across a claimed 35,000-plus possible combinations. You could replace a heavy unit’s lightning coils with rockets to smash an enemy base or outfit a scout with a kamikaze rig.

Resource gathering also worked differently: buildings harvested resources automatically according to the abundance of nearby spore pods, eliminating the need to micromanage worker units. But the most unusual mechanic was research through slaughter. Killing enemy units left behind DNA that a worker had to physically retrieve, allowing your clan to unlock the technology of its foes.

Ambitious, bizarre, and unlike almost anything else on the market, WarBreeds tried to push the RTS formula in a radically different direction, even if few players were around to appreciate it. With fewer major RTS releases in 2026 than in previous years, the DRM-free GOG version is well worth checking out. It's compatible with Windows 10 and 11.

Game: Conarium.

Released: June 6, 2017.

List price: $19.99.

Available to claim for free on Luna Gaming until: November 11, 2026.

Description: Conarium was developed by Zoetrope Interactive, a small Turkish studio later known as Stormling Studios. Before the game’s release, the studio was best known among a niche audience for its "Darkness Within" titles.

An unofficial sequel to H. P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness, Conarium follows four scientists on an Antarctic expedition that pushes them toward “the absolute limits of nature.” Drawing on Lovecraftian cosmic horror, the game emphasizes unsettling exploration, psychological unease, and a pervasive sense of the unknown.

Initially released for Windows, the game later arrived on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch. It received a generally favorable, if not exceptional, reception, with critics praising its haunting atmosphere and faithfulness to Lovecraftian themes. Some puzzles, however, were criticized for disrupting the game’s pacing and slowing its momentum.

The DRM-free version available on GOG lists compatibility with Windows 7, 8, and 10; Mac OS X 10.12.6 (Sierra) and 10.13 (High Sierra); and Ubuntu 14.04.
